Chef Andrea’s Bacon Whiskey Truffles (at Carnitas Snack Shack)

I’ve been making the short trek to Carnitas Snack Shack since the day it opened and recently discovered a new gem – the Bacon Whiskey Truffle.  As is the case with most North Park restaurants, Carnitas’ owners Hanis and Sara share the local ethos that helping promote other people in the industry is good for everyone.  As part of Pints & Pols, I’ll be taking a handful of these delightful treats with me to share at Counterpoint tonight at 7:00 p.m.

Here’s a bit more detail

I’m not really sure the best way to describe these little bites of sweet and savory pleasure.  When you order them at Carnitas they come in orders of two, and I’ll admit I can’t remember the price because I never actually look.  They are made of this rich, dark chocolate that complements a salty or spicy meal rather nicely.  It might seem a bit unusual to have bacon slipped into your after-dinner sweets, but this particular ratio works well and allows the affair with pork product to continue even after you’ve devoured the last grilled chunk of crispy-edged joy that you had for dinner (or lunch, I suppose).

Chef Andrea tells me that she’s got several other flavors and that you can order direct from her for your own special event.  Her facebook page is here.  But if you just want a couple for yourself, swing by The Shack, have a nice meal, then take a couple truffles for dessert.  Unless you are allergic to one of the ingredients, I’m pretty sure you won’t regret it.
